Deadlock battle pass
There's no Deadlock battle pass yet, and Valve hasn't announced one. But the game's files now hold the parts of one: levels, rewards, a version you can own, and premium points. Here's what's actually there, and what isn't.
In the game's files
What's there
- A version you can own
- An event can require you to own it, and Valve's own test screen for events shows "Owns Event". That is what a paid pass needs.
- Points to a paid version.
- Levels
- Each event sets how many points make a level. Rewards can unlock at a set level, and some can repeat every few levels.
- The core of any battle pass.
- Two kinds of points
- The same test screen shows "Event Points" and "Premium Points", with separate buttons to grant each.
- Likely a free currency and a paid one.
- Free and owner limits
- Every reward has one limit for people who own the event and another for those who don't.
- Free players could still earn some rewards.
- Real rewards
- Rewards can be a set item or a random pick from a loot list, each with its own name, description, image and preview scene.
- Skins could be handed out this way.
- Start and end dates
- Events have a start, an end and a later expiry, and rewards can be set as claimable after an event ends.
- Built for limited-time seasons.
- Points on a timer
- Added in the Halloween update: points and rewards that are handed out per period, with a cap that can grow.
- Could be daily or weekly limits, but that is a guess.
- Friend leaderboards
- An event action can have its own leaderboard among friends.
- A small extra, but it shows how far this goes.
Timeline
When it showed up
29 September 2026
The event system first appears in the game's code, with the City Never Sleeps update. On the same day, Valve says it is working on "progression and hero/hideout customizations".
30 October 2026
The Halloween update adds a Halloween 2026 event, the timed points and new test commands, including one that sets your level in an event.
Be careful
What it doesn't prove
- The words "battle pass" don't appear anywhere in the game. We searched its text and its code. This is a system that could run one, under any name.
- No rewards, levels or prices are listed. The files only hold the structure.
- Only two events exist in the code: Halloween 2026 and one called NYC Catalog. Neither is a pass as far as we can tell.
- Valve could change it, or only ever use it for free seasonal events. Halloween 2026 already seems to run on it.
Valve's words
What Valve has said
"This even includes things like progression and hero/hideout customizations, as we feel those are features we want to be able to adjust and significantly change based on feedback before the game is fully released."
From the City Never Sleeps post, 29 September 2026. "Progression" isn't "battle pass", but a pass would be one way to do it. Want to know what the rewards could be? See what we know about skins.
Quick answers
Battle pass questions
- Does Deadlock have a battle pass?
- No. There's no battle pass in the game today, and Valve hasn't announced one. The game's files do hold a level-based event system with an owned version and premium points, which is what a battle pass would run on.
- When is the Deadlock battle pass coming out?
- There's no date. Valve hasn't confirmed a battle pass exists. It did say in September 2026 that it's working on progression and hero customization, and wants feedback on them before the game fully releases.
- How much will the Deadlock battle pass cost?
- Nobody knows. There are no prices in the game's files.
- Will the battle pass have free rewards?
- It's possible. Rewards have separate limits for people who own an event and people who don't, so free players could get some of them. Valve hasn't said how it will work.
- Will a Deadlock battle pass have skins?
- Probably, if one comes out, but nothing confirms it. Events can hand out items, and the game has a system for hero skins. No actual rewards are listed yet.
- Has Valve made a battle pass before?
- Yes. Valve sold Battle Passes for Dota 2 for years, so this would not be new for the company.
